SPA2005 session: Architectural Failures

One-line description:This workshop will examine systems that failed due to "bad" architecture

Session format: Workshop [read about the different session types]

Abstract:Most of us have been involved with large scale systems and applications that "failed" due to "bad" architectural or design practices. This workshop will examine a number of failing systems and solicit input on other examples.

From these example "failing" systems the common failure modes and characteristics of poorly architected systems will be documented.

Finally, again using the example systems, a number of "bad" architectural designs or antipatterns will be defined.

Audience background:Architects and designers with experience of large scale projects that have failed due to poor architecture.

Benefits of participating:Understanding of the failure modes and types of poorly architected systems.

Understanding of some poor architectural design practices.

Materials provided:Examples of poorly architected systems and the concomitant failure.

Process:5 Mins Overview of topic presentation
