SPA Conference session: Team Coaching with Equanimity

One-line description:Workshop to explore new coaching model through examples

Session format: Workshop 75 mins [read about the different session types]

Abstract:Everyone encounters situations where teams are not working as well as they could be. The hard part is knowing what we can do to improve the situation. Come to this session to gain insight into the nature of change that can help us get a better sense of perspective when introducing change. Learn about common distractions that often get in the way of establishing a common understanding. Discuss how these have impacted your attempts to make changes large and small. We'll walk you through a new model that applies the perspective of equanimity which can help you spot better ways intervene and improve team team dynamics.

Audience background:No special knowledge required although we will be sharing experiences of working in teams.
Relevant for reflective practitioners with roles such as product managers, team leads and senior developers. Aimed at people who want to help their teams work better, improve interactions and remove kinks from their process.

Benefits of participating:Learn about some models that can help you assess situations where you want to improve team dynamics and identify practical actions. Try applying these models in groups to common situations encountered at work.

Materials provided:Worksheets for the group activity.

Process:The session will be a mixture of presentation and group work. We want to encourage participants to share their thoughts on the models presented and also stories about situations where a change was attempted. We will provide some worksheets with common scenarios encountered at work and invite groups to come up with interventions and then classify them by applying the models presented. We bring the session to a close with sharing from each table group.
