BCS SPA2016

SPA Conference session: Scaling agile: beyond the hype

One-line description:An case study in helping large scale software projects to become more agile. Warts and all.

Session format: Case study [read about the different session types]

Abstract:Scaling agile is the buzzword of the moment. In this talk I'll go beyond the hype and share my first hand experience, warts and all, in helping large scale projects—involving from ~100 up to more than 700 programmers and testers (not counting managers, product owners and scrum masters)—with their transition to a suitable agile methodology. I'll share both what worked and what didn't (and why SAFe, DAD, and other large scale agile frameworks are not necessarily the answer).

Audience background:Anybody involved in software development, especially people interested in "scaling agile" in their organisations.

Benefits of participating:Get a better understanding in what's involved in implementing agile methodologies in large scale projects beyond the hype of certification salespeople.

Materials provided:The slides after the talk

Process:It's a standard presentation with, I hope, some audience interaction.

Detailed timetable:

Outputs:I may write a blog post if anything interesting comes out in any questions and answers.

History:As things stand, that could be the first or second time, depending on the proposal being accepted in another conference before SPA
