BCS SPA2016

SPA Conference session: An Introduction to Deep Learning

One-line description:What is deep learning, and how can I learn deep?

Session format: Tutorial - 150 minutes [read about the different session types]

Abstract:Deep learning just sounds cool. And every major software company that's a major software company seems to be open sourcing their deep learning thingamajig. But what is deep learning, really? And how do we make use of the good work that the boffins at Google, Microsoft, etc. are doing?

In this tutorial, we will cover the basics. And we'll go through series of exercises that'll help us understand the concepts better. Finally, we'll look at Google's Tensorflow, and put it to use.

At the end of the tutorial, you should have the basics covered, and be well on your way to learning more things...err....deeply.

Audience background:Interest in machine learning, data processing, etc.

Benefits of participating:Learn about neural nets,

Materials provided:Slides, exercise material.

Process:Mixture of interactive discussions, and exercises. Pairing is expected, though we can fall back to mob programming if setting up environments fail.
